In this episode, I do a 2018 year-end review with my lovely fiancé Crystal Love! We dive deep into all the main nutritional takeaways we've learned this year and what we plan to do differently going forward. We talk about our training and exercise takeaways and how that has changed over the year. We talk about our major lifestyle shift and some of the highlights and challenges that have been learned throughout that. We dive into our main business takeaways for the year and how we started Keto Brick LLC. We even touch on some of our plans for 2019! It truly has been an awesome year and we've come so very far. In this episode, I speak with Dr. Ryan Lowery on some of the new science behind ketogenic performance. We dive into how he has been able to make a greater impact by stepping outside of traditional academia. He tells us about some of the cutting edge research studies that illustrate the performance benefits one can obtain in a state of ketosis. He compares carbs vs ketones as they relate to building muscle. He describes the relationship between ketone bodies and lactic acid and how they use similar metabolic pathways. We dive into the pros and cons of exogenous ketones. We also touch on the research concerning degenerative diseases and possible solutions. Cory transitioned from a very unhealthy HCG diet to the ketogenic diet and has seen amazing results with his body composition and overall health. We dive into the psychology of why people cheat on a diet. That leads to a discussion on mindset and how to create a long-game lifestyle out of your dieting goals. He tells us how he started his keto food business, Select Savory Seasonings. We talk about how to give back to the keto community and he teaches us some creative cooking techniques! We dive into how that has effected his life and what he has learned from it. We also talk about how he is leveraging keto to improve his health and how he is helping others on their journey. In this episode, I had the honor of being joined by Danny Vega and Brian Williamson of The Ketogenic Athlete Podcast. The three of us spent this past week at my family farm down in south Arkansas. We figured we'd record a podcast in the middle of all the festivities. We talked about the importance of disconnecting from our day-to-day hustle. We discussed silence and solitude. We exposed our insecurities so that we could develop new skills. We all harvested animals while we were there so we talked about that experience and the importance of respecting where your food comes from. We all had a blast and I hope this podcast gives you a glimpse into what we experienced!

In this episode, I speak with Victoria Field on a variety of different keto related topics. Victoria is a former IFBB pro fitness competitor and news anchor. She has since transitioned into the ketogenic lifestyle and has become a huge resource with the Epigenix Foundation and Keto Pet Sanctuary. In this episode, I speak with one of my clients, Robert Hogge. Robert was in a severe car accident which caused significant nerve tissue damage. This injury left him nearly immobile and stuck in a life of severe pain. He became medically addicted to pain medication and realized he had to turn his life around. He got off the meds and turned towards nutrition to improve his health and well being. He experienced such a shift in his well being after following the keto diet that he decided to pursue one of his life's dreams of stepping on stage as a competitor. He worked with me and we got him absolutely shredded at 49 years old and made this dream a reality. He now works alongside his wonderful wife in teaching others about the benefits of keto and how to live a purpose driven life. I've got utmost respect for him, I hope you enjoy the conversation!

In this episode, I speak with Adam Clark on his and his family's health transformation. Adam is one of 7 brothers, five of which are keto. He was introduced to keto by his father and his older brother and has since made it his lifestyle. We go over some of the mistakes he's made with the diet and many of the lessons learned. We talk about his fasting strategy and the importance of avoiding sweeteners and caffeine in excess. Adam trains solely with resistance bands so we dove into his technique there. Adam tells how he is raising his family keto and his plans for his daughter's health. We also dove into his family's new business....homemade pork rinds! In this episode, I'm joined by repeat guest, Jonathan Shane. Jonathan is a former client of mine who competed in his first show earlier this year. I originally had him on the podcast immediately following his first show and we talked about his competition prep strategy. I wanted to have him on again several months after so that he could describe what the post-show "rebound" and reverse diet has been like. We also dive into the importance of embracing each phase of body recomposition and being ok with some temporary increase in body fat. Jonathan tells us some of the lessons he's learned throughout the process and what he plans to do going forward. In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Jimmy and Christine Moore! They tell me how they met and what their nutrition was like prior to keto. I learned about several of the autoimmune issues Christine had that played a major role in motivating her to improve her health. We talked about their new book, Real Food Keto, and many of the nutritional therapy principles that it's based on. We dove into digestive health and how to regulate blood sugar. We talked about the downside of consuming too much protein, carbonated water, alcohol, and even sweeteners. I really enjoyed the conversation and it was great to have them both on at the same time!

In this episode, I speak with Neo, founder of Keto Matrix! We dive into Neo's interesting career path. From aviation, to pharmacology, to attack dogs, to keto, Neo has seen a bit of everything. He tells us about his transformation from over 300 lbs to his current weight of 165 lbs using IF and keto. He dives into supplements and insulin. We are both experimenting with calories in an extreme surplus so we talk about what we've learned in doing that. In this episode, I speak with fellow keto competitor, Ciara Martinez! Ciara was motivated to turn her life around after reaching a weight of 225lbs and falling into a deep depression. She had two kids, a broken leg, had just relocated, and was totally frustrated with her situation. She decided to start the keto diet and improve her health. After seeing some great progress she decided to take it one step further and enter a bikini competition! She dives into that whole experience and many of the lessons learned. We talk about peak week manipulations and how to properly follow a keto diet during a contest prep. In this episode, I speak with professional rugby athlete Paul Jordaan! Paul enlightened me on the sport of Rugby and goes into the details behind the training regiment; both during the season and in the off-season. He tells about some of the injuries he's suffered and how he manages his time as a professional athlete. We dive into his nutritional protocol and how he transitioned to Keto and then to carnivore. Paul follows a higher fat approach to carnivore and has seen significant benefits in his recovery time and overall performance. I also learn that Paul is from South Africa where his family owns a hunting ranch. We discuss the beauty of harvesting your own meat and connecting with the wild!

In this episode, I speak with Meg and her journey of losing over 200 lbs and overcoming eating disorders. Meg grew up as the "big kid" at school and developed eating disorders at an early age. This impacted her very negatively and she was constantly avoiding interaction with others. She gained the confidence to pursue a healthier lifestyle after seeing others with a similar background turn their life around. We dive into binging, purging, and the downside of fasting. We also discuss the psychological aspect of reaching your goals and the importance of consistency, discipline, forming habits, and a healthy balance. I really enjoyed this talk as I relate to so many of the struggles Meg reflects on.

In this episode, I learn all about how to be a Vegan Keto-adapted athlete with Tay Sweat. Tay is the vegan trainer but he didn't start out like that. He was overweight and diagnosed with type two diabetes when he was only 15 years old. He decided to swap out the fast food for veggies and hasn't looked back since. We dove into the macro ratios he follows and what a typical day of eating looks like for Tay. We went down the rabbit hole of eating for ethics vs eating for performance. We discuss nutrition based off of ancestral history. We compare vegan and carnivore and we stress the point of doing what is right for you as an individual. We dive into how that diagnoses paired with the projected lifespan of an additional 1-10 years impacted his life. We talk about how his transition to keto post surgery has improved his conditioning beyond what was thought possible. We dive into the recovery process and Logan's motivation behind starting Fusion Lean. We dive deep into how tasting death has changed Logan's mindset and his view on excuses. In this episode, I speak with the founder of Catalina Crunch, Krishna Kaliannan! Krishna was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and epilepsy and looked to the ketogenic diet to help with seizures. In following keto to improve his symptoms, he realized he had to part ways with many of his favorite breakfast cereals. Rather than miss out on cereal, he decided to create his own! Catalina Crunch was born out of his desire to make a keto friendly breakfast cereal that didn't sacrifice quality. We dive into many of the lessons he has learned along the way. I hope you enjoy!
